Winter Fun

There's No Play Like Snow Play

Sublette County: Your Winter Recreation Destination.
We have it ALL.

Come winter, some locals become snowbirds and migrate to warmer climes, while others thrive in the cold, crisp mountain air and thousands of acres of white fluffy snow.  Sublette County averages 67 inches of snow a year, and temperatures can hover around -20 to -40 in January and February, in fact, Big Piney boasts of being "The Ice Box of the Nation." Whether you want to cozy up next to a roaring fire or want to play outside all day, Sublette County's winter has something for you to enjoy.

Winter Driving Reminders

The  Wyoming Department of Transportation does not use salt on our icy/snow packed roads in the winter. They do use sand, which often contains larger pieces of gravel. Our best advice is to drive slowly and cautiously when roads are slick. Decelerate early to ensure that you don't slide through a stop sign or into another vehicle. Leaving extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you will help to preserve your windshield. Sublette County is very remote and many areas do not have cell service or a gas station just around the corner. Be sure to keep the fuel in your vehicle above half and check road conditions with the WyDOT before heading out. When roads are closed, be safe and stay at home.
